Science – a gateway to understanding ourselves and the world around us.
A little Bit About Me!
-
My name is Sheryll Hahn, with another first name, Tersiphone (Ter-si-fo-nee). My father is a biologist who loves bird watching and named me after the genus of a bird that inhabits the forests of the Philippines.
I LOVE the beauty and design of nature which led me to have a background in science, with a degree in microbiology from UC Davis and a certificate in art & graphic design.
I am passionate about what I teach and I enjoy the curiosity and wonder when educating our younger generations. I take on the responsibility to show them how science works and what science has already uncovered about how the world works around them. With this, my intention is to bring up aware individuals whom understand that we are all fundamentally connected, and that when we work with each other we create a brighter, more equitable future!

I am a Filipina-American who lives in Monterey, California. I teach both 7th and 8th grade science at Seaside Middle School, along with run the LGBTQ+ and Garden club. I have 2 lovely teenage gay children who have taught me how large my heart can be!
If I had all the time and money in the world, I would choose to travel (eating while traveling), biking & hiking outdoors, reading science-fiction books, goof off with my crazy 4-person family, and spend the rest of my time between napping and doing something creative!
I choose to teach for the sake of…
WONDER.
CURIOSITY.
KNOWLEDGE.
EMPATHY.
All of these characteristics are powerful in their own rite, but together, they can be the foundations of a person who can not only do well in life, but be the type of human we need to usher us into a brighter future. We need individuals who understand how the world works, be able to solve problems with new technologies & ideas, and we need humans who will make smart decisions for the good of all.
I am passionate about hands-on activities and life changing field trips, project-based teaching, and building a classroom where students feel safe & seen. But in the end, my hope is that I am influencing students to be aware of how important science is, and how its power can yield a lot of good for human kind.
